"Dreamland Manor " It must be one of my great sorrows that I didn’t have the chance to review this album in 2005 for Rockheavyloud. For should I have done it and I would have considered it album of the year, hands down. So Thomen Stauch left Blind Guardian. That can’t be a good thing. Or can it? Suddenly we have Thomen and Piet Sielck from Iron Savior with this new project involving a couple of members of a stunning and still not widely known band: Persuader. I knew I had to check it out, and when I did it was even better than expected. Dreamland Manor serves us all the pomp and might we always liked in Thomen’s previous band, raised to heights of majesty that I could not have foreseen. From the beginning, we get an absolutely stunning array of powerful riffing, impressive soloing and one of the most impressive vocal performances I’ve heard in years. Jens Carlsson, also lead singer for Persuader, has a gritty voice, quite much like Hansi Kürsh, but a bit rougher. Now, the man can hold an album on his own, but when Piet Sielck joins in with his backup vocals, we get some mesmerizing chorus lines, the kind that will bring chills down your spine and stick to your head forever. And incredible as it may seem, not a single song in this album lacks an outstanding chorus, greatly enhanced by a masterful production that will leave your jaws dropped with the amazing multi-layered sound barrier being thrown at you. All in all we have a portentous sound that is much like mid-era Blind Guardia, around the time of “Imaginations From The Other Side”. Album Highlights? Goodluck in finding something less than excellent in this masterpiece! “Evil Eyes” will blast through your brain like an atom bomb, yet “Between The Devil And The Seas” will bring you to your knees so fast with it’s amazing choruses that you won’t know what happened. The same can be for the majestic choruses of the darker “Waltz Of The Demon” in which Jens pulls out an amazing vocal performance, unleashing some lower grunts and some louder lines, showing just how varied he can be. Up until the end with the fast paced, overwhelming masterpiece that is “Born Again By The Light”, Dreamland Manor exhales power and majesty in a way that could easily set new standards for Power Metal. “Beyond Reality” is the album’s ballad, absolutely amazing with a passionate delivery from Jens Carlsson, quite strong and melodic. My advice is that every mid-era Blind Guardian fan should listen to this and then cry like a baby, wondering why these guys didn’t come up with this album any sooner. You’ll most likely get swept away so hard you crap your pants before you even noticed you felt like using the loo. There’s nothing you’d want in a metal album that you’ll find missing here: thundering drums, raw, vicious riffs, savage soloing by Emil Nordberg, unbeatable vocal performances from Jens and Piet, and great lyrics. OK, so you may still dislike this, but if you do… really… you have no idea what you’re missing out on. Perhaps the cherry on top of the cake is that this album hinted to how these four musicians were in top-shape, leaving me with great expectations for Persuader and Iron Savior’s next albums. Persuader didn’t let down, and Iron Savior hardly will! At the time of writing this review, Thomen’s health is still not the best. We at Rockheavyloud are keeping our fists in the air for him. Savage Circus "Dreamland Manor" É uma das minhas maiores tristezas não ter podido avaliar este álbum em 2005 para a Rockheavyloud. Se o tivesse feito, tê-lo-ia considerado álbum do ano, sem contestação possível. Portanto o Thomen saiu dos Blind Guardian. Isso não pode ser bom. Ou pode? Subitamente temos o Thomen e o Piet Sielck dos Iron Savior com este novo projecto envolvendo dois membros de uma excelente e ainda pouco divulgada banda: Persuader. Sabendo isto, era claro que tinha de ouvir este trabalho e quando o fiz, foi ainda melhor que o esperado. Dreamland Manor oferece-nos toda a pompa e poder que sempre gostamos em Blind Guardian, levada a níveis que eu simplesmente não poderia prever. Desde o início, recebemos um conjunto impressionante de riffs poderosos, solos portentosos e uma das melhores performances vocais que ouvi em anos recentes. Jens Carlsson dos Persuader tem uma voz rouca, muito como a de Hansi Kürsh, mas um pouco mais áspera. Bom, e o homem consegue perfeitamente aguentar um álbum sozinho, mas quando a ele se junta Piet Sielck nos coros, apanhamos com alguns coros apaixonantes, do tipo que dá arrepios da espinha e que nos ficam na cabeça para sempre. E por incrível que pareça, não há uma única música neste álbum que careça de um coro excepcional, muito ajudado pela produção magistral que é capaz de nos deixar os queixos no chão com as várias camadas da barreira do som que nos é atirada à cara. No geral, temos um som muito semelhante aos Blind Guardian nos anos noventa, pela altura de “Imaginations From the Other Side”. Destaques do álbum? Boa sorte a encontrar algo menos que excelente nesta obra prima! “Evil Eyes” vai estourar no cérebro como uma bomba atómica, e ainda assim “Between The Devil And The Seas” vai colocar-nos de joelhos tão rapidamente com os seus coros impressionantes que não saberemos o que nos atingiu. O mesmo vale para a sombria “Waltz Of The Demon”, em que o Jens saca uma performance fantástica, com alguns roucos graves e alguns momentos mais agudos e altos, a mostrar-nos quão variado consegue ser. Até ao fim com a veloz e possante obra-prima que é “Born Again By The Light”, Dreamland Manor exala poder e majestade de um modo que pode bem estabelecer novos padrões de qualidade para o Power Metal. “Beyond Reality” é a única balada do álbum, absolutamente apaixonante, com uma entrega cheia de paixão por parte de Jens Carlsson, ao mesmo tempo poderosa e melódica. O meu conselho é que todos os fãs da fase intermédia dos Blind Guardian deveriam ouvir isto e depois chorar como meninas, perguntando-se porque é que é que estes tipos não se saíram com este álbum mais cedo. É quase certo que serão arrastados com tanta força que vão largar uma prenda nas calças sem sequer notarem que estavam com vontade de ir ao WC. Não há nada que queiram num álbum de metal que falte aqui: bateria trovejante, riffs ferozes e crus, solos selvagens por Emil Nordberg, performances vocais insuperáveis por parte do Jens e do Piet, além de excelentes letras. OK, podem ainda assim desgostar disto, mas... realmente... nem farão ideia daquilo que estão a perder. Porventura a cereja no topo do bolo é que este álbum deu uma boa ideia do quão em topo de forma estes quatro músicos estavam, deixando-me com grandes expectativas para os próximos álbuns de Persuader e Iron Savior. Persuader não desiludiu e Iron Savior dificilmente o fará! No momento da escrita desta revisão, a saúde do Thomen ainda não é a melhor. Todos nós da Rockheavyloud estamos de punhos no ar por ele.
