Painside - Dark World Burden

Bem, por esta eu não esperava. Painside era um nome que não me dizia absolutamente nada e, etiquetados laconicamente como “Metal” na press release, à qual se acrescentava um visual muito “moderno” a lembrar Disturbed, a banda não me inspirava grande confiança… isto é, até “Ignite The Fire” explodir na minha aparelhagem.

De um modo muito simples, Dark World Burden é um comboio de mercadorias em velocidade de cruzeiro: o chão estremece, os tímpanos contraem-se e, francamente nada o pára nos trilhos. Se as influências marcadamente modernas nos riffs e estrutura das músicas lembrarão mesmo os Disturbed e outras bandas do Metal dito “moderno”, de que eu pessoalmente desgosto, não é por isso que os mais puristas devem afastar-se dos Painside.

A banda consegue manter-se longe dos clichés mais saturantes do género e cria um admirável equilíbrio com as suas raízes mais clássicas de Judas Priest, ou Iron Maiden. Clássico e moderno mesclam-se de modo muito atraente, de tal modo que só com muito esforço desgostaremos do resultado, e nos coros parecem haver alguns indícios de Power Metal Europeu ao estilo Edguy. Tudo isto resumido, a comparação mais directa é com Halford.

A maior surpresa numa banda que mostra grande talento é em todo o caso a performance vocal de Guilherme Sevens. Um verdadeiro “uau” deve ser deixado aqui. O rapaz parece um Bruce Dickinson em topo de forma, contribuindo imenso para uma aura maidenesca das composições e é francamente difícil encontrar um vocalista em início de carreira com tamanho talento.

Gustavo Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance, Takara, ex-Adagio), Renato Tribuzy (Tribuzy) e Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger), são os convidados aqui e, no mínimo, mostram que se a banda tem uma aproximação “moderna” ao Metal, as suas raízes são muito óbvias. O resultado final é uma sublime declaração de peso e poder que vale a pena rodar repetidamente no leitor, graças a composições tão demolidoras quanto “Ignite The Fire”, “Where Darnkess Rules”, “Forsaken” ou a particularmente impressionante “Sand Messiah”. Marquem a data: a 2 de Abril os Painside libertam toda a sua pujança sobre um mundo que nem imagina o que o aguarda.

Well, I didn’t see this one coming. Painside was a name that didn’t ring any bells to me and, laconically labeled as “Metal” by the press release, to which was added a very modern visual, reminding me of Disturbed, the band really inspired me a lot… that is, until “Ignite The Fire” exploded in my stereo.

Very simply put, Dark World Burden is freight train in cruise mode: the floor shakes, eardrums contract and nothing can really stop it on its tracks. If the truly modern influences in the riffing and song structure will really remind Disturbed and other bands in the so-called “modern” Metal, a genre I don’t quite like, that’s not a reason that should keep the purists away from Painside.

The band manages to stay away from the genre’s most annoying clichés and creates an admirable equilibrium with its classical roots that include Judas Priest or Iron Maiden. Classic and modern blend very well, in such a way that only with a tremendous effort will you dislike the end result and in the choruses there even seems to be a certain European Power Metal influence in the vein of Edguy. All this can be summed up in a very close comparison: Halford.

But the greatest surprise in a very talented band is certainly Guilherme Sevens. A true “wow” is in order. The guy sounds like Bruce Dickinson in his best moments, giving an immense contribution to the maidenesque aura of the songs and it’s really quite difficult to find a singer with such vocal performance when his career is only about to really begin.

Gustavo Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance, Takara, ex-Adagio), Renato Tribuzy (Tribuzy) and Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger), are the guests here and they will very clearly show that if Painside have a modern approach to Metal, their roots are clear. The end result is a sublime declaration of crushing weight that you’ll judge very worthy of spinning repeatedly on your stereo, thanks to such demolishing songs as “Ignite The Fire”, “Where Darnkess Rules”, “Forsaken”, or the particularly impressive “Sand Messiah”. Mark the date: on April 2nd, Painside will unleash their might on an unsuspecting world.
